Toenail Fungus Laser Treatment
Toenail fungus (Onychomycosis) is a very common condition. It is an infection of the root of the nail with a fungus. As the fungus invades the root and begins to multiply, the root becomes damaged. From this unhealthy root grows an unhealthy nail.
Until recently, if you had toenail fungus, options to treat the disease were limited and often unsuccessful. But with laser therapy, the toenails you remember may be yours again. After laser treatment, patients tell us that after several months, they can wear sandals they haven’t felt comfortable wearing for years.
Laser therapy is the newest treatment we offer for fungal toenails and improves the appearance of the nails in many patients. The laser works by penetrating the nail plate and destroys the fungus under the nail. There is no pain and no side effects. Dr. B. Raginsky uses laser which is one of the most advanced dermatologic lasers currently available.
Most people do not feel any pain. Some patients may experience slight warmth or occasional snapping sensation during the procedure. If you have any pain during the procedure, the laser power can be decreased slightly to eliminate any pain. No anesthesia is needed.
No post treatment pain has been reported. You may resume all normal activities immediately.
